I'm not one of those people who loves going to the gym, but Chris and his team have managed to get me going consistently for over three years and now it's become part of my routine.
I can't recommend enough the Small Group PT sessions. They are the perfect middle ground between a 1-2-1 with a personal trainer and a class. You benefit from the motivation of the group, but with the technical depth that you would normally only get with a PT.
The trainers are knowledgeable and take the time to sit down with you and correct your technique, adapting the exercises should you need it, so you can progress at your own pace and make the most of every single session.
Speaking of technique, I recently attended a workshop on RowErg and SkiErg at Engine Room where Chris shared his vast knowledge and taught us the proper technique for both machines. It was a very valuable experience. I immediately noticed an improvement and left with the tools to keep getting better.

I have now been with the Engine Room for 2 years and can't recommend it enough.
I went into all this completely green and had no clue where to start or how to do things. I wanted a small group setting that felt safe and not overwhelming. Engine Room was the perfect setting for this.
I was very adamant that I would never ever do a Hyrox but here I am with 3 races done and already 3 more booked in.
Even though I now have much more experience I still really enjoy the sessions they offer - and the friendly community! There is a wide range of sessions and at different times so it can fit into your schedule.
A new thing they now also offer is Hyrox sessions and they have tailored a personal workout program for me. It is a really high quality and they go beyond to help their members. If you have any feedback they take it on and see what they can do to make it happen.
The new Hyrox sessions are also really easy to try out as a drop in if you want to get a taster of them first.
I also very much have to mention the owners Chris and Kelly who are always around and available for a nice chat. They are so friendly and you can really tell how passionate they are about their gym. They don't hide away and are just so lovely.
Together with the others, Ellie, Ethan and Kev, they make a really nice team.
Also, last but not least, there is towel service! It is so nice not having to log around a wet towel all day if you do sessions before work.
10/10 - would recommend!

I started going to the Engine Room in January. Yes. Another new year, another new exercise endeavor. Now, because I am on the older end of things, I have been to many gyms and have pursued many programs (OTF, 1Rebel, Fierce Grace, Row House, learn to row and masters sculling, pilates, yoga, spinning) -- to name some of them. Heck, I remember aerobics in the 80s. Jazzercise. I have also worked with personal trainers. What's unique about ER and what has not been true of my endless prior exercise adventures: at the Engine Room you not only get the attention that a personal trainer would provide, but you also get a community and a small group setting, led and guided by excellent coaches.
So far I have pursued the three different strength training classes, each of which has a specific focus as well as some of the conditioning classes, which combine strength and cardio. The equipment for cardio (all Concept 2 machines) is superlative, as is all their strength training equipment; they have just the right type of weight or barbell or dead lift box-like thing or band that suits the exercise best. (And, it's all new and clean.) For the machines, all Concept 2 -- the rower, the skier, and the bike -- so you have choices.
Yesterday I went to a workshop aimed at teaching excellent rowing technique (on the ergometer) while also providing a good overview of the skier. They are serious about helping people use the erg, an invaluable and challenging cardio machine to get the most out of the effort put in (and avoid getting injured). I've watched many people jump on the rower and work hard with modest results because they haven't been taught to erg well, and their technique is... well... not in place. ER and Chris, in particular, will set you straight! (and set you up for success)
I would say this same approach characterizes everything: your strength routines will be designed for you, customised so that you are challenged in a healthy and meaningful way, and you will improve and get fitter and stronger. And, as you do so, they will change up your routines. As well, the coaches (Chris, Ethan, and Kevin) are empathic, kind, knowledgeable, and committed to ensuring your form is good, and you are getting the most out of all you are putting in.
I look forward to going there (not always my feeling about the gym); I always learn something; and I am confident that my fitness routine is serving my goals (chief among them is to age well and to be able to work out for years to come). Speaking of age, it's a diverse group in this setting and doesn't have a gym vibe that can sometimes intimidate those of us who aren't gym rats or 27 years old and ripped, if you know what I mean. In fact, several people have told me their stories of coming to ER and having their workout lives transformed.
Thank you, Engine Room.

I can’t recommend The Engine Room highly enough, especially their Hyrox classes.
What really sets them apart is the coaching quality.
The attention to detail on technique, particularly on the Rower and SkiErg, has made a huge difference to my performance.
If you’re training for Hyrox, this is the place to do it.
Highly recommend!

Fantastic trainers (Chris, Ethan, Kevin and the team), clean and spacious and clean facilities (individual stations for all small group PT, state of the art equipment), and exceptional training programmes that are actually personalised for each member (with regular tracking and optimisations). If you're after a gym that will drive results quickly, Engine Room is for you. Suitable for all levels of fitness. Excellent community all round. Highly recommend!

The Engine Room is a terrific gym with a dedicated team. Ethan was my coach and he was thoughtful, knowledgeable and worked in partnership with my PT to design a program that worked for me.
